How We Built Saba Quran From Scratch: A Website Prism Case Study
If you've been through the free trial flow, watched your child's progress on the parent dashboard, or just read a surah in our online reader, you've already used what this article is about: the Saba Quran website itself. It was designed, built and launched from scratch by Website Prism, a web design and development company, for teacher Saba Afzal's online Quran academy. This is the story of how it came together, step by step — written for anyone wondering what it actually takes to turn an idea into a working online business.
The starting point: one teacher, no website
Saba Quran began with a simple goal — live, 1-on-1 Quran classes for children and adults, taught by a named, background-checked teacher, for families in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Germany and beyond. There was no existing site to redesign, no booking system, no billing, and no way for a parent in another country to see what they were signing up for. Everything had to be built, and built in the right order.
Step 1: Decide what the website has to do, before how it looks
Before any design work, we mapped the real journey a family goes through: finding the academy, understanding the pricing, booking a free trial, becoming a paying student, attending classes, and paying month after month. A website for a service like this is not a brochure — it is the operating system of the business. Writing that journey down first is what kept every later decision honest.
Step 2: Design for trust, on every screen size
Parents are handing over their child's religious education, so trust comes before everything. The design leads with the teacher's name and credentials, published per-class pricing, a clear safeguarding policy and real family reviews. It works on a phone first — because that is where most parents will open it — with light and dark modes, readable Arabic typography, and a trial booking form that shows class times in the visitor's own time zone.
Step 3: Build the platform, not just the pages
This is where a template site and a purpose-built one part ways. Behind the public pages, Website Prism built:
- Three separate portals — one for the academy's admin team, one for teachers and one for students and parents — each showing only what that person needs.
- Class scheduling that runs itself. Set a student's weekly days and time once and their sessions are created automatically, with meeting links attached and reminder emails sent in each person's own time zone.
- Billing that fits real families. Secure Stripe subscriptions at a price agreed per family, sibling and referral discounts, payment links for anything overdue, and automatic reminders — so nobody chases payments by hand.
- Progress you can actually see. Attendance, reports and certificates in the parent dashboard, and a free Quran reader with audio, translation and a distraction-free page view anyone can use.
Step 4: Build in search visibility from day one
Search engine optimisation is far cheaper to build in than to bolt on later. The site was structured from the start with clean, fast pages, proper structured data, a sitemap that updates itself, landing pages for each country and major city served, a German-language version of key pages, and content that answers the questions parents genuinely ask. In Google's PageSpeed Insights the live site scores 100 for both SEO and Best Practices. We are honest that ranking takes time for any new site — but the foundations are exactly where they should be.
Step 5: Keep it safe and dependable
A site that handles children's learning and family payments has to be secure. That meant spam protection on every form, rate limiting on logins, secure headers and cookies, payment handling kept entirely with Stripe, and regular checks for bugs and broken pages — followed by quick fixes, not a "we'll look at it next quarter".
Step 6: Launch, then keep improving
A website is never finished on launch day. Since going live the site has been continuously tuned — better trial booking, clearer pricing, new pages, faster loading, a compact reading mode for the Quran reader — all based on how real visitors actually use it.
