Online Quran classes for families in South Africa
Saba Quran is a small online academy. Every class is live and 1-on-1 over video, taught by Saba Afzal, a female teacher with an Ijazah in Tajweed and Qira'at. Lessons are in English and Urdu, Monday to Friday, with 20 classes a month on every plan, and learners range from young children to adult beginners. Your first class is a free trial.
Many mosques and community madrasas run afternoon or weekend Quran classes, usually for groups. Online 1-on-1 lessons are an option when you want individual correction, when a venue is far away, or when you prefer to learn privately.
Class times for South Africa
Your teacher is based in Pakistan (UTC+5, with no daylight saving time). This is how Pakistan time converts into yours:
| Your time zone | Gap | When it is 3:00 pm in Pakistan | When it is 5:00 pm in Pakistan | When it is 7:00 pm in Pakistan | When it is 9:00 pm in Pakistan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| South Africa Standard Time (SAST) | Pakistan is 3 hours ahead | 12:00 pm | 2:00 pm | 4:00 pm | 6:00 pm |
Example conversions, not a timetable: which slots are actually free is confirmed when you book your trial.
South Africa does not use daylight saving time, and neither does Pakistan, so the gap stays at three hours all year round. To check any other time, use the class time converter.
Fitting classes into your week
South African school terms follow the calendar year, with a long break around December and January. After-school hours (about 3 to 5 pm) are 6 to 8 pm in Pakistan, which is comfortably inside normal teaching hours.
In-person madrasa or online 1-on-1?
Each has strengths. This comparison may help you decide.
| In-person madrasa | Online 1-on-1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher attention | Usually a group; the teacher hears each learner briefly. | The whole lesson is on one learner, and mistakes are corrected on the spot. |
| Pace | Set by the group and the term plan. | Set by the learner; hard parts can be repeated. |
| Travel and timing | Travel to a fixed place at fixed times. | From home, with a time agreed within the teacher's hours. |
| Community | Other children, the congregation and the mosque setting. | No peer group; it pairs well with local community life. |
| Parent visibility | Varies by venue. | Parents may sit in, and progress notes appear in the parent dashboard. |
| Cost | Set by each venue. | Published prices from $4 per class (30 minutes). |
| What you need | No equipment. | A device, a stable internet connection and a quiet space. |
Both have a place, and many families use both: the local community for belonging, and 1-on-1 lessons for precise correction of recitation.

Frequently asked questions
What time zone are classes in, and how big is the gap with Pakistan?
Your teacher is based in Pakistan (UTC+5, with no daylight saving time). South Africa Standard Time (SAST): Pakistan is 3 hours ahead. Your slot is agreed in your local time when you book.
Do clock changes affect my class time in South Africa?
South Africa does not use daylight saving time, and neither does Pakistan, so the gap stays at three hours all year round. Your class time therefore does not shift during the year.
How much do online Quran classes cost for families in South Africa?
Plans are priced in US dollars: $4 per class on the 30-minute plan ($76 a month), $9 on the 1-hour plan ($180) and $15 on the 90-minute plan ($300), each for 20 classes a month, Monday to Friday. Payment is by bank transfer, and the full breakdown is on the pricing page.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. The trial class is free and you are not asked for payment details to book it. We reply within 24 hours to confirm a time, and you decide afterwards, without pressure, whether and on which plan to continue.
Who teaches, and can I ask for a female teacher?
Every class is currently taught by Saba Afzal, a female teacher with an Ijazah in Tajweed and Qira'at, in English and Urdu, so a female teacher is the default. How teachers are vetted is explained on our safeguarding page, and parents may sit in on any class.
Is the time difference with Pakistan a problem for school-age children in South Africa?
Usually not. South Africa is three hours behind Pakistan all year, so an after-school class at 4 pm is 7 pm in Pakistan. Tell us your preferred window when you book and we will confirm what the teacher can offer.
