Using the Juz Amma checklist

Juz Amma is the final thirtieth of the Quran, from Surah An-Naba to Surah An-Nas. Because most of its surahs are short, it is a natural first target for children learning to read and for adults who want to memorise something meaningful quickly. You can also read any surah on our free Quran reader.

Four boxes per surah. Tick Read when you can read the surah correctly from the page, Memorised when you can recite it without looking, Revised when you have gone back to it after a few days or weeks, and leave Teacher checked for your teacher to tick once they have heard it recited accurately, with correct tajweed.

Combine this list with the Hifz tracker for daily sabaq, sabqi and manzil. If you cannot yet read Arabic fluently, begin with the Noorani Qaida; if you are ready to memorise with a teacher, see our Hifz classes and pricing.

Frequently asked questions

What is Juz Amma?

Juz Amma is the 30th and final juz of the Quran. It runs from Surah An-Naba (surah 78) to Surah An-Nas (surah 114) and contains 37 surahs and 564 verses. Most of its surahs are short, which is why it is where many children and new learners begin memorising.

Why do so many students start Hifz with Juz Amma?

The surahs are short, many are recited often in daily prayer, and they are widely taught, so there are many chances to hear and practise them. Starting with short surahs also builds the habit of daily revision.

In what order should I memorise the surahs?

Many students begin at the end with An-Nas and work backwards towards An-Naba, because the shortest surahs are there. Others follow the order of the Quran. Either is fine; ask your teacher which suits you.

What counts as "revised"?

A surah is revised when you have recited it from memory again after some time, not only on the day you learned it. Tick it each time you complete a revision cycle, or use the teacher-checked box once your teacher has heard you recite it correctly.

Are the verse counts the same in every Quran?

The counts here follow the standard Hafs count used in the Madani mushaf, where the Basmalah is not numbered as a verse (except in Al-Fatihah). Some other recitation traditions number verses slightly differently.
