Planning a khatam that you can actually finish

A khatam is a complete reading of the Quran. Many families plan one for Ramadan, but the planner works for any month. The Madani mushaf most students use has 604 pages in 30 juz, so the maths is simple: divide the pages by the days you have. A 30-day plan is about 20 pages a day, and splitting the day across the five prayers makes each sitting short enough to fit between other commitments.

Choose a pace that matches your reading. Twenty pages a day is realistic for a fluent reader. If you read slowly, are still working through the Noorani Qaida, or want to apply tajweed carefully, set a longer period or a smaller range of pages. The “From page” and “To page” boxes also let you plan just Juz Amma (pages 582 to 604), for example.

Catch-up days. If you miss a day, either add the missed pages to the next day or rerun the plan from today with the days you have left. Starting a new plan is never a failure.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages a day do I need to finish the Quran in 30 days?

The Madani mushaf has 604 pages, so a 30-day khatam is about 20 pages a day, which is roughly one juz. Split across the five prayers that is about four pages after each prayer.

How many pages is one juz?

In the 604-page Madani mushaf most juz are 20 pages. The first juz has 21 pages and the last juz (Juz Amma) has 23. Other printings of the Quran can have different page numbers.

Can I finish the Quran in fewer or more than 30 days?

Yes. Enter any number of days in the planner. Fifteen days is about 40 pages a day; sixty days is about 10 pages a day. Choose a pace you can keep up, because steady daily reading works better than a rushed start.

When does Ramadan start?

The start of Ramadan depends on the moon and differs by country and by year, so pick the start date yourself and let the planner count from there. Check with your local mosque for the date.

Is it better to read quickly or carefully?

Careful reading is worth more than speed. If you are still learning to read Arabic or to apply tajweed, a smaller daily amount read correctly is a better goal than a full khatam. A teacher can help you choose a realistic target.

Learn with a teacher, one-to-one

A chart or a planner helps, but correct pronunciation comes from a teacher who can hear you. Book a free trial class (no card required) or message us with any question. Paid classes are settled by bank/wire transfer after the free trial.
