How to Choose a Quran Teacher You Can Actually Trust
Handing your child's Islamic education — and, with online classes, a live video connection into your home — to a stranger deserves more scrutiny than picking based on price or a polished landing page. Here's what's actually worth checking.
Ask for real verification, not just a claim
"Background-checked" means nothing without specifics. Ask what kind of check was done (a criminal background check, an ID verification, a review of their Ijazah/qualification), when it was done, and whether it's something you can see evidence of — not just take on faith from marketing copy.
Check how classes are actually run
Is it genuinely 1-on-1, or a group class marketed as personal attention? Are classes recorded or does anything leave the live session? Is there a fixed teacher your child keeps, or a rotating roster where consistency is never guaranteed? These structural details matter more than almost anything else.
Use the trial class as a real evaluation, not a formality
A genuine trial should let you assess actual teaching quality: does the teacher correct pronunciation in real time, or just read along passively? Do they explain why a correction matters, or just repeat it? Does your child seem engaged, or bored and going through the motions? If a company doesn't offer a real, no-obligation trial before payment, that itself is worth questioning.
Watch for pricing transparency
Vague pricing that requires "contacting us for a quote" for a standard class is a common way to obscure comparison shopping. Clear, published, per-class pricing — the same price every family sees — is a reasonable baseline expectation, not a bonus feature.
Trust your child's own reaction
Beyond every credential check, a child's comfort with their specific teacher is the strongest predictor of whether learning actually happens. If something feels off after the trial — even without a concrete reason — asking for a different teacher is a normal, reasonable request, not something to feel guilty about.
